An Overview about ADO

Abs Development Organization for woman and Child (ADO) is a well-established national, humanitarian, developmental, non-profit and non-governmental organization, founded in August 1996 by a group of Yemeni girls to provide a better life for women, children, and youths. ADO has been operating in Yemen for more than 27 years with an outstanding coverage to the deprived rural areas located on the coast of Tehama and other various areas in Yemen aiming to get rid of poverty and infectious diseases. Since its inception, ADO has implemented over 213 developmental and humanitarian projects. According to ADO latest cumulative statistics, by end of the year 2021, a total of  6,695,412 people were benefited from these interventions. Consequently, the organization has established itself among the most effective civil society organizations in Yemen that are working on issues related to livelihood, health, education, and WASH supporting women, children, and youth. Operating from its Headquarter office in Sana’a, and through its branch offices in Al-Hodeidah, Hajjah, Abs, Raymah Taiz and Aden, ADO provides educational, health, livelihood and WASH services to urban and rural communities. As ADO believes that women are the essence of life, it has devoted all its activities and programs to empower and educate women who will lead to a modern and just state. ADO also believes that protecting and caring for children will result in a prosperous future; free from crime and terrorism. Furthermore, ADO believes that youth are the potential and driving force of any modern civil society.

Job objectives/ Scope:

This job aims to plan, develop, and implement WASH component with the RiSE project , supervise the progress of these projects, build the team’s capabilities, and expand interventions in this sector on the geographical scope targeted by the organization.

Position Overview:    

Reporting to: Project Manager 

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop the WASH Program Plan, ensuring a smooth implementation while overseeing the team performance and other duties that may include, but are not limited to:

  • Construct or rehabilitate water networks, boreholes, water wells, and relevant systems;
  • Implement the construction or rehabilitation of latrines and/or other sanitation facilities;
  • Promote hygiene and education.
  • Conduct Cholera prevention campaigns.
  • Monitor water treatment.
  • Supervise water trucking and emergency water supply.
  • Provide water for irrigation.
  • Conduct baselines, endlines, and assessments.
  • Build the capacities of the staff and partners.
  • Monitor the work of contractors and service providers.
  • Design, construct and implement appropriate WASH tools in accordance with the technical standards ensuring maintenance and proper use.
  • Develop and ensure the use of appropriate techniques and materials to promote hygiene and training.

Manage human resources for the WASH team and provide technical support, training, and capacity building.

  • Oversee the timely monitoring of project budget, expenditure, and progress.
  • Monitor activities’ achievement progress by following up indicators and reporting status accordingly.
  • Identify and monitor risks committing to reporting procedures.
  • Ensure keeping data and information updated and accessible in addition to sharing the lessons learned and best practices officially;
  • Liaise with other departments while working closely with the program Manger to ensure cooperation and information sharing. 
  • Represent the organization in meetings, conferences, and other forums related to WASH.
  • Assess humanitarian needs reporting clear recommendations for interventions 
  • Participate in ADO annual strategic plan coordination meeting and in the process of applying for new proposals

Experience and Qualifications    

  • Typically, bachelor’s degree, water and sanitation engineering, civil engineering, or relevant technical WASH specialization.
  • At least three years of work experience designing and implementing water and sanitation systems in IDPs, refugee and migrant contexts, maintaining sanitation systems, and implementing hygiene promotion programs, including two years in a humanitarian setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of experience supervising contractors and interacting with international staff, partners, and donors.
  • Field experience managing national water, sanitation, and hygiene programs in complex humanitarian settings, including emergency responses.
  • Experience in a national emergency and early recovery phases, including assessing and delivering adequate water supply and sanitation interventions in humanitarian and development contexts.
  • The ability to effectively analyze complex problems and suggest a solution that would have a positive impact.
  • Ability and understanding of the WASH sector and its hardware components.
  • Competent in using Windows and other Engineering software: AutoCAD, Hydraulics soft wares Epnaet, WaterCAD, and GPS.
  • Ability to effectively present information (both written and verbal) and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers, field counterparts, and senior government officials.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of linking WASH activities with other humanitarian sectors.
  • Ability to understand gender-related challenges within the beneficiary groups.
  • The ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret, technical and non-technical, in the English.

Must have excellent English written and oral communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments within International Medical Corps, donors, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector
